Mardi Himal with Annapurna Base Camp Trek

The Mardi Himal with Annapurna Base Camp trek links two very distinct territories of the Annapurna region into one. The adventure starts on the quiet Mardi ridge, the hidden trek of the area, and climbs to 4,500 m for views of Machhapuchhre, Annapurna South, and Hiunchuli. It then descends into the Annapurna Sanctuary and reaches Base Camp at 4,130 m, the heart of Annapurna Base Camp—a widely known trek and famous among both foreigners and Nepalese.

Two of the most favourite treks of the Annapurna region, ABC and Mardi Trekking in Nepal, present something that trekkers rarely experience. The trek is approximately 100 - 110km and takes you through rhododendron wood, bamboo forest, Gurung and Magar villages, teeming with local culture.

Mardi Himal Vs Annapurna Base Camp Trek - The Popular One?

Are you searching for Annapurna Base Camp or the Mardi Himal Trek in Nepal? Despite looking at spectacular images and videos, comparing Annapurna and Mardi, and reading evaluations on many different platforms, and still struggle to decisively decide which stood out the most. It is absolutely up to you; what are you looking for? Annapurna is widely recognised for its iconic Himalayan scenery, integration into culture, and longer duration, and has an aura that persists in everyone’s heart; however, some individuals find Mardi as the epic of their lives as it offers a more close and quieter experience with breathtaking ridge-top views and a less complex duration.

In order to satisfy your requirements, Index Adventure has designed a 14-day special Annapurna Base Camp with Mardi Himal Trek Itinerary.

Mardi Himal is a silent secret beauty

Mardi is located on the eastern edge of the mountains of Annapurna and directly below the Machhapuchre peak. The Mardi trek begins from the city of Pokhara, takes you through hillside agriculture and traditional Gurung villages. And soon plunges into a dense woodland of rhododendrons. With a challenging morning hike to the viewpoint and Base Camp of Mardi Himal at 4500m, trekkers can get amazing panoramic views of the Himalayas. There, the humongous peaks Annapurna South, Hiunchuli, Machhapuchhre, and Mardi Peak itself tower over the skyline. The route in total has a distance of approximately 50 -55 km (31 miles), and it is a mix of cultural exposure as well as naturally exposed Himalayan land. For those searching for an off-the-beaten-path adventure, the Mardi Himal trek stands as one of Nepal’s most bona fide and rewarding experiences.

Annapurna Base Camp - An Astonishing Amphitheatre

A glacial amphitheatre is so breathtaking that you do not even have time to feel your lungs expanding; 4,100 m above sea level, at the heart of the Annapurna massif, it lies there, astonishing you. Early in the morning, the  Annapurna ranges (I, South, III, IV), Gangapurna, Hiunchuli, and other—shine with the rise of the sun, reminding you why this Annapurna Base Camp is hallowed beyond trekker legends.

The route of each day follows the rhododendron and bamboo forest teeming with monkey Langurs and the Himalayan Black Bears into the kaleidoscopic core of Gurung and Magar culture. This is because their conventions, musical tunes, local forms of speaking, and humming are as healthy as the mountains themselves, and that is what has made the ABC Trek the best in business.

Annapurna Base Camp Trek Itinerary covers about 55 - 60  km from Jhinu Danda to Annapurna foothills over approximately a week.

Mardi Himal and Annapurna Base Camp Trek difficulty

The difficulty of the Annapurna Mardi trek is considered intermediate. It demanded both physical fitness and mentality, as you ascend to 4,500 m at Mardi Himal Base Camp and 4,130 m within the Annapurna Sanctuary. Success here rests not on prior expertise but on vigor and a steadfast mentality. With the right preparation, you are ready to go, and so are we.

With Index Adventure, your Annapurna Mardi Himal adventure in 2025 becomes joyful memories to cherish for a lifetime; it becomes a family trip with us and a memory intertwined.

Best Seasons

The Annapurna and Mardi avenues are best groomed in the spring (early March to late June) and fall (September to December). Rhododendron flowers bloom in the woods from March to May, and Machhapuchhre from Deurali is a sight to see in the early morning. The Annapurna Range offers breathtaking sites and dry, precise air from September to November.

Despite the fact that both of these packages can be completed at any time of the year, the winter and monsoon seasons might pose obstacles. ABC and Mardi Ridges are blanketed in snow in the winter; meanwhile, nature paths are muffled by leeches and dense vegetation during the rainy season.

Other Treks in the Annapurna Region

The Annapurna region has many other hiking routes like Annapurna Circuit, Annapurna Base Camp, Khopra, Mardi Himal, and many other places.

Annapurna Circuit Trek

Known for its basic cultural immersion, mountain views (Annapurna, Dhaulagiri, and Machhapuchhre), and breathtakingly varied landscape, this Nepali trek passes through one of the highest trekking passes in the world, Thorong La Pass (5416 m). It also allows you to visit villages belonging to various ethnic groups while passing through frightful places like Muktinath Temple. It will take between 12 -20 days to complete the trip, but some parts can be skipped.

Annapurna Base Camp trek
If you're tapped for time but still want to witness the majestic beauty of the Annapurna range and stand at the base of Annapurna I , this hike is perfect. Excluding the Mardi Trip, this itinerary only follows the route to Annapurna Base Camp, but via the famous Ghorepani Poon Hill.

If you find this adventure isn’t enough, we can design each trekking package and itinerary of the Annapurna Region and beyond as your preferences. For your next adventure, make your reservation now.

Mardi Annapurna Trek - 14 Days Itinerary

Mardi and Annapurna Base Camp Trek Itinerary

Starting from Kathmandu, you travel via road from Pokhara to Kande, where your official journey begins, and then on through green forests to Pritam Deurali, where you begin the Mardi Himal trip. As the trail climbs to High Camp, it passes through rhododendron forests to reach Low Camp and offers stunning views of Machhapuchhre and the Annapurna range. To witness the sunrise, trek early to the Mardi Himal viewpoint (4,200 m), then continue walking to Mardi Himal Base Camp (4,500 m). Finally, walk down to Low Camp. And the next day, walk down to Forest camp, Landurk village.

The second segment of our trip, ABC Trekking, starts from here. From Jhinu Danda, which is common for its natural hot springs, the route continues to Chomrong Village, and we go through Upper Sinuwa, a calm, forested village with wide-ranging views. Then on to Deurali, a lovely stop encircled by cliffs and waterfalls. After crossing Machhapuchhre Base Camp and heading to the 4,130-meter Sanctuary, the path leads up to  Annapurna Base Camp. We will follow the same route and get back to Pokhara by scenic Jeep ride from Jhinu Danda, concluding our 14-day ABC Trek with Mardi Himal Combined.

In Low Camp, you can relish the beautiful views of Machhapuchhre (Fishtail) and Annapurna South. You will spend the night in a simple teahouse lodge with comfortable amenities.

On today's trek, you will travel the mixed Himalayan terrain from Low Camp to High Camp. The trail takes you along the ridge before heading to Badal Danda. You will get occasional views of Annapurna South as you trek through the dense rhododendron forests.

From Badal Danda, the landscape transitions from verdant trees to alpine pastures. You will take on the steep terrain, making your way to High Camp. Despite the physical challenges, you will find breathtaking views of Mount. Machhapuchhre, the Annapurna Range, the Annapurna Base Camp Valley, and Mardi Himal. Before the final High Camp push, you will find a narrow ridge pathway with deep valleys.  You will find the Modi Khola River Valley on your left; on your right, you will have villages leading up to the Annapurna Sanctuary.

Early in the morning, around 4 am, we will leave High Camp and start climbing along the narrow ridge to reach Mardi Himal Base Camp at 4,500 meters. We’ll start with a steep climb that takes about 2 hours to reach the first Mardi Himal View Point (4200m), commonly referred to as MBC (Mardi Himal Base Camp). The actual base camp lies even higher, requiring another 2-hour steep climb along the ridge. This is the main highlight of the Mardi Base Camp and also the most challenging part, with steep uphill climbs and strenuous walks. After spending some time at Mardi Himal Base Camp, as the sun paints the icy peak in hues of gold, you can also enjoy the beautiful sights of the surrounding landscapes.  From Mardi Himal Base Camp, you will find impressive views of Annapurna I, Annapurna South, Hiunchuli, and surrounding peaks. The sight of the magnificent Machhapuchhre standing right in front of your eyes will leave you in awe. Take in this sight and capture the beautiful memories & we will descend back to Low Camp.

Today we will descend down to Landurk. We follow the same route until we reach Forest Camp, and take a different route to walk down towards Langdurk Village, having lunch continue walking to reach Jhinu Danda. We reach our destination. You will be taken to your hotel. Enjoy your leisure time there.

After breakfast, we leave Sinuwa and head to Deurali. Along the way, we hike through Bamboo, reaching Dovan first, then Himalaya, and finally Deurali. From Dovan to the Himalayas, we'll see stunning waterfalls on the right and a beautiful temple. Near Deurali, you can spot the Hinku Cave. As we continue trekking, the Fishtail Mountain becomes clearer.

The day starts from Deurali as we steadily climb, reaching Bagar and Machhapuchhare Base Camp (MBC). From MBC,  we'll enter the Annapurna Sanctuary. Take in the awe-inspiring sight of the majestic Mt. Machhapuchhre (Fishtail Mountain) standing in front of your eyes before heading to the Annapurna Base Camp.  And after a few more hours of hiking, we'll reach Annapurna Base Camp.

Today, you will wake up to the stunning ABC sunrise. Watch the golden rays of the sun paint the sky over the Annapurna range. We’ll enjoy a 360-degree view of the Annapurna range, including Hiunchuli (6,441m), Annapurna South(7,219m), Annapurna I(8,091m), Gangapurna (7,455m), and Machhapuchhare (6,993m).
