The Pikey Peak Trek – 9 Days is among the best hot spots to relish the beauty of Mount Everest. Everest's first summiteer, Edmund Hilary, also confirmed Pikey Peak offers the view of the mighty Everest.

Apart from the diverse landscape of the Everest region, the Pikey Peak trek also offers an insight into the lifestyle and culture local communities. Home to mixed ethnicities, like Tamang, Chhetri, Gurung, Rai, and the Sherpas, each ethnic group of the region is known for its warm hospitality. Likewise, the trails adorned with beautiful prayer flags, chortens, mani walls, and monasteries allow a spiritual immersion in the lap of the magnificent mountains.

The Pikey Peak Trek begins from Dhap. Along the way, you will stop at several villages. The fifth day is the main highlight of the entire week-long trek.  After a morning hike to Pikey Peak, a beautiful sunrise and the magnificent Himalayan panorama await. Take in the magical view before beginning the descent to Phaplu.

All in all, this is a short and relaxing trek. Though the journey takes you to an elevation of over 4000 meters, you can easily complete the trek without extra rest or acclimatization days. Also, since it is a relatively new trekking trail, you can travel in peace, avoiding the bustling tourist crowds.

Why Go on Pikey Peak Trekking 9 Days?

Pikey Peak Trek is a short journey in the lap of the magnificent mountains. There are several reasons to go on the Pikey Peak Trek; we have listed a few below:

Short Duration Trek: Pikey Peak Trek is a 9-day journey in the Solukhumbu district of Nepal. This is suitable for people who have limited time in Nepal. Though short, you can enjoy the mountains and travel the diverse terrain of the Himalayas. Overall, the one-week Pikey Peak trek gives you an immersive Himalayan experience.

Beautiful Views of Majestic Peaks: The Pikey Peak trek is a trek to the lower region of the Everest region. During this trek, you can get occasional mountain views. However, upon reaching the Pikey Peak summit, you will get awe-inspiring views of Mount Everest, Makalu, and Kanchenjunga, Gaurishankar, Lhotse, Nuptse, Number, and several surrounding peaks.

Suitable for All Trekkers: Though the Pikey Peak Trek takes you to a high elevation, above 4000 meters, this is still a suitable trek for all expertise. Prioritizing sufficient rest, a comfortable pace, hydration, and nutritious food will help you in the acclimatization process. Additionally, building your endurance and stamina will ensure a safe and memorable trek.

Cultural Immersion: As you journey along the Pikey Peak Trekking trail, you will find diverse ethnic communities. The trail is home to mixed ethnicities, like Tamang, Chhetri, Gurung, Rai, and Sherpa. You can immerse yourself in the local culture, experience their rich heritage, and enjoy the warm hospitality of the locals.

Fewer Crowds: Pikey Peak is a newly opened trekking route. Therefore, you will find fewer people along the trails. This is an excellent alternative to the Everest View Trek for people who want to avoid the crowded trails of the classic Everest route.

Pikey Peak Trek Best Time for 2025 and 2026

The best time for Pikey Peak Trek is in the spring (March to May) and autumn (September to November) months. During these months, you will find ideal conditions for trekking with clear skies and incredible views of the mountains.

Pikey Peak Trek in spring brings you comfortable trekking conditions. The temperatures are warm, and lesser chances of rainfall. There are slight chances of afternoon showers, but this should not hinder your plans. You will find the lower-altitude vegetation covered in spring blossoms. The vibrant rhododendrons and wildflowers bring the trails to life.

Likewise, Pikey Peak Trekking in autumn is equally beautiful. You will find mild temperatures, but the higher-altitude regions can be chilly. So, remember to pack accordingly. There are fewer chances of rainfall. As a result, the skies are clear and offer great views of the surrounding mountains.

Winter trekking in Pikey Peak can be difficult. The Himalayas experience frigid weather. The snow engulfs the trail, making it difficult to navigate. On the other hand, winter treks can be a unique experience. You can immerse yourself in the untamed beauty and experience a once-in-a-lifetime adventure. Though beautiful, the Pikey Peak Trek in winter requires careful preparation and is recommended for experienced trekkers.

Monsoon can be a risky season for trekking. Heavy rainfall causes major highway disruptions. Also, Pikey Peak Trekking trails are slippery, which increases the chances of injuries. Therefore, a monsoon trek is best avoided.

Due to global warming, the Himalayas are experiencing climate change. The weather can be unpredictable. Therefore, it is best to check the weather or consult with our expert guide before planning your Pikey Peak Trek.

How Difficult is the Pikey Peak Hike 9-Day Journey?

The 9-day Pikey Peak Trek is a moderate journey into the lower belts of the Everest region. Since this is a newly introduced trekking route, you will find quieter routes. The availability of teahouses and lodges along the way is limited. Therefore, you should follow the itinerary and complete each day’s trek.

However, the trek can be easily achieved. You need to ensure that you can hike for at least six hours daily and can take on the rugged terrain of the Himalayas. Pikey Peak Trek takes you to the Pikey Peak summit, at 4065 meters (13,336 feet). While this is a high-altitude zone with risks of altitude sickness, most trekkers conquer the summit without spending an extra day for rest or acclimatization. If you think you need to acclimatize before taking on the ascent, you can request your guide for a rest day.

Altitude Sickness and Prevention in Pikey Peak Trek

Pikey Peak takes you to a maximum elevation of 4065 meters. Though this is a moderate-level trek that does not require extra rest days, you can manage the journey without much hassle. However, you need to walk at a comfortable pace, get enough rest, eat nutritious food, and avoid alcoholic beverages.

If you experience symptoms of altitude sickness, you should inform your guide. Most symptoms can be subsided with medication like Diamox. However, if symptoms are severe, you may be required to descend to a safer altitude or seek helicopter evacuation.
